Basic process of disability claim

Contact your nearest

Contact a Pensions Officer and supply him/her with your DVA File Number
Lodge an informal claim with the help of the Pensions officer

Fill out the required claim forms with your Pensions Officer and lodge within 3 months of the initial claim
Proof of Identity checks

Apply to have your case reviewed and supply further evidence that shows a decrease in your ability to work, a deteriation in your health etc Do not resign from work
Attend Doctors and Specialists as directed by DVA.  You have the right to discuss DVAs choice of Doctors with your Pensions Officer Attend Doctors and Specialists as directed by DVA.  You have the right to discuss DVAs choice with your Pensions Officer
You may wish to apply for a copy of your Military Medical records  
Keep in contact with your Pensions Officer
You may need to fill out a Life Style form
Keep in contact with your Pensions Officer

Wait for a DVA decision

You may be entitled to assistance through Centrelink

You may be entitled to claim a Service Pension

Service Pension and a Disability Pension are quite different

If unhappy with the decision you have the right to appeal

You will need to gather further evidence and revisit Doctors and Specialists after talking with your Pensions Officer. Your Pensions Officer may refer you to an Advocate

A Case Officer will gather required information with your assistance and the assistance of your Pensions Officer.  The case officer may then take it before a Section 31 or hand it to an an Advocate 
Your Advocate may elect to take the case before a Section 31
Or he may apply to have your case heard with the Veteran Review Board (VRB)
As a last resort your case may need to be taken to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT)
